.........Gerilee Santmyers supplied a birth date as 1859 for Daniel, Izetta lists his birth as 1853. With either date it seems impossible that Frank born 4 Feb 1861 could be his son. I have 1886 as the date of marriage, which would fit with the birth date of 1887 for Infant Fnu. Also the the 1887 marriage fits with a birth date of 1853 or 1859. Thus, either the birth date is incorrect for Frank's birth or this is not the correct Frank Santmyer. I suggest this is not the correct Frank to connect with Daniel, since Mollie, wife of Frank, was born in 1862, and their marriage date is listed as 1884.

Update 1/22/00: Information received from Ron Santmyers, great grandson of Frank and Mary A. (Mollie) Mitchell Santmyers includes the following:

Frank Santmyers, born 1861Warren Co., VA, died 23 December 1941Warren Co., VA, was the son of Mildred A. and Daniel Santmyers. This Daniel (not Daniel P.) was born 1814 (based on age of 36 in 1850 census) or 1820 (per info from Ron Santmyers) in Shenandoah Co., VA and died in 1897 in Warren Co., VA. In addition to info from Ron Santmyers, the 1850 Warren Co., VA Census also lists the wife of Daniel as Mildred. I believe that Frank Santmyers born 1861 and his descendants were incorrectly attached to this Daniel P. and Mary L. Putman Santmyers.

Frank married Mary A. MITCHELL 25 Dec 1884, Warren Co., Virginia. Mary was born 2 Oct 1862; died 25 Dec 1927; was buried Dec 1927, Prospect Hill Cemetery at Front Royal, VA. [Group Sheet]

Daniel SANTMYERS was born 1814, Shenandoah Co., Virginia (son of Jacob SANTMYER and Jane KNAPS); died 1897, Warren Co., Virginia; was buried Nov 1897, Old Frederick Cemetery, Waterlick, Warren Co., Virginia.

Notes:

Daniel is buried is buried in the Old Frederick Cemetery here in Warren Co. Va. It is located near the Waterlick area today. You can read the info on Daniel?s headstone that says he died in 1897 at 77 years old. There is a slight problem there as that reporting of his age would have him being born four years after his father died.

His wife Amelia, as shown on the marriage bond, also know as Millie, Milla, and Mildred Ann, misrepresented his age on every census until he was at home at the time the 1880 census was taken where he stated he was 68. She also changed her age on every census.

Daniel was most probably born in 1812-1813. If he was born later than that date he would have been drafted in the Confederate Army in 1864 when the draft age was 50. He was not listed in the Home Guard as a person too old to serve but still be required to fight if needed.

Ron Santmyers

I have not yet found definite proof that Daniel is the son of Jane Knapp and Jacob Santmire. However, he resided only a few doors from Jane Knapp Santmire (1850 Warren Co., VA Census) and his dob was just one year later than Leah Santmyers (d/o Jacob and Jane Knapp Santmire). This certainly is not proof, but could be a lead as to the parentage of Daniel.

Notes:

Jacob and Jane moved from Frederick Co. to Shenandoah Co. after 1794 and before 1810.* Jacob served in the Virginia Militia from Winchester, Frederick Co., Virginia in the 1790's. He possibly served in the Revolutionary War. As only Jane signed the marriage permission for Barney in 1816, it is a strong indication that Jacob had died prior to that date.

*The sections of Frederick and Shenandoah Counties, where they lived, were very close together. This area later became part of Warren Co. when it was formed in 1836.

*Present spelling is Santmyer, at least in my branch of Santmyer's, and also in Glenn's. Other branches spell it as Santmyers and Santymire. Of all the names in my Family Tree, this is the one name I have encountered with the most different spellings. Some spellings are so far removed that they are difficult to recognize as Santmyer. Spelling variations: Santmyer, Santmyers, Santmire, Santmier, Santmiers, Santmeyer, Santymire, Santemeyer, Santamyer, Santimire, Santingere, St. Myer, St. Meyer, Sauntmire, Sanbaire, Santaire, Saintmyers, Sanskrives, St. Moyers, Sandmeyer, Saulmire and Sandmeier.
