ZENTMEYER and Rebecca UHLER); died 17 Jan 1943, Harrisburg, Dauphin, Pennsylvania; was buried Gravel Hill Cemetery, Palmyra, Lebanon, Pennsylvania. Notes: Educated in common schools, George learned the painter's trade with his father, with whom he worked until the age of thirty-two, and went to Palmyra, Lebanon County, where for two years he was employed in the manufacture of shoes, after which he established himself as a painter and paper-hanger and now has a fine business; a Democrat and member of the United Brethren Church. -History of Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, 1907 George married Mary A. 4. | Henry G. ZENTMEYER was born 24 Aug 1838, Warwick Twp., Lancaster, Pennsylvania (son of Samuel ZENTMEYER and Catherine GORGAS); died 10 Feb 1920, Derry, Dauphin Co., Pennsylvania; was buried Spring Creek Cemetery, Hershey, Dauphin Co., Pennsylvania. Notes: Henry received a common school education, and in his youth was engaged in farming. He devoted nine months to the blacksmith's trade, after which he served an apprenticeship of three years to the trade of painting and paper-hanging, with his brother Benjamin. After working three years as a journeyman, he went into business for himself, and has built up a very large connection employing twelve men, also conducting a store for the sale of paint and wallpaper. Among many large contracts he has had was that for Milton Hershey, including the work on all his dwellings and his large chocolate plant, which alone covers more than six acres. Mr. Zentmyer has several fine properties in the place besides his residence, which is a spacious and commodious double house, recently erected by himself. His political principles are those of the Democratic Party. 8. | Samuel ZENTMEYER was born 16 Nov 1793, Lancaster, Pennsylvania (son of Johann Jacob ZENTMEYER and Catharine Susanna ZARTMAN); died 17 May 1875, Lancaster, Pennsylvania; was buried Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Kissel Hill, Pennsylvania. Notes: For several years Samuel owned and operated a tannery in Lancaster County, and he was also the possessor of a small farm of forty acres. His last occupation was that of teaching, in which he was engaged for eighteen years.
