8. | Henry G. ZENTMEYER was born 24 Aug 1838, Warwick Twp., Lancaster, Pennsylvania (son of Samuel ZENTMEYER and Catherine GORGAS); died 10 Feb 1920, Derry, Dauphin Co., Pennsylvania; was buried Spring Creek Cemetery, Hershey, Dauphin Co., Pennsylvania. Notes: Henry received a common school education, and in his youth was engaged in farming. He devoted nine months to the blacksmith's trade, after which he served an apprenticeship of three years to the trade of painting and paper-hanging, with his brother Benjamin. After working three years as a journeyman, he went into business for himself, and has built up a very large connection employing twelve men, also conducting a store for the sale of paint and wallpaper. Among many large contracts he has had was that for Milton Hershey, including the work on all his dwellings and his large chocolate plant, which alone covers more than six acres. Mr. Zentmyer has several fine properties in the place besides his residence, which is a spacious and commodious double house, recently erected by himself. His political principles are those of the Democratic Party.
