2. | Benjamin Franklin ZENTMYER was born 01 Jun 1851, Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne Co., Pennsylvania (son of Benjamin Gorgas ZENTMEYER and Caroline SANDS); died 01 Apr 1903, Montesano, Grays Harbor Co., Washington. Notes: Benjamin Franklin Zentmyer (Frank) and his brother William went from Vermillion Illinois to Kentucky by oxen, pulling a saw mill across the frozen Ohio River in the winter of 1883-1884. They settled near Manitou, Kentucky. Bill and his family lived in Madisonville and their younger brother Thomas Jefferson Zentmyer worked on a railroad near St Louis and fell off the train and was killed. Don't think he ever married. Benjamin married Mary Elena YORK 1 Aug 1875, Elbridge, Edgar, Illinois. Mary was born 29 May 1850, Eldridge Twp., Edgar Co., Illinois; died 22 Jan 1896, Richland, Hopkins Co., Kentucky; was buried Pleasant View Baptist Church Cemetery, Hopkins Co., Kentucky. 4. | Benjamin Gorgas ZENTMEYER was born 12 Aug 1826, Warwick Twp., Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania (son of Samuel ZENTMEYER and Catherine GORGAS); died 21 Apr 1863, Warwick Twp., Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania; was buried Salem Lutheran Church, Kissel Hill, Lancaster Co., PA. Notes: Benjamin G. Zentmyer was enrolled on the 11th day of September, 1862 at Ephrata, Pennsylvania in Co. C, 17th Regiment of Pennsylvania Cavalry Volunteers to serve three years or during the Civil War, and mustered into service as a Sergeant on the 27th day of September, 1862 at Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He was taken prisoner at Ocoguan City, Virginia on the 27th day of December, 1862 and after being paroled, was sent to parole camp at Annapolis, Marylend., where he contracted smallpox. This statement was from Major Weidner H. Spera of the Pennsylvania Cavalry. He was sent home on leave the 3rd day of April, 1863. Jno. H. Shink M.D. saw him on the day he reached home. He stated that Benjamin G. Zentmyer's smallpox was in the secondary stage and was beyond medical aid. He lived until the 21st day of April, 1863. Benjamin married Caroline SANDS 28 May 1848, Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, New Holland, Lancaster Co., PA. Caroline was born 17 Dec 1830, Warwick, Lancaster, Pennsylvania; died 19 Apr 1900, Warwick Twp., Lancaster Co., PA; was buried Moravian Cemetery, Lititz, Lancaster Co., PA. [Group Sheet] |

8. | Samuel ZENTMEYER was born 16 Nov 1793, Lancaster, Pennsylvania (son of Johann Jacob ZENTMEYER and Catharine Susanna ZARTMAN); died 17 May 1875, Lancaster, Pennsylvania; was buried Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Kissel Hill, Pennsylvania. Notes: For several years Samuel owned and operated a tannery in Lancaster County, and he was also the possessor of a small farm of forty acres. His last occupation was that of teaching, in which he was engaged for eighteen years.
