"Robert married Catherine Garber September 18, 1859. (Actually September 3, 1859 -Ed) They came to Kansas in 1886 and in 1905 moved to Holly, Colorado, to take a claim of government land. This trip was made in a covered wagon drawn by a team of oxen. The oxen yoke used was hand made by William Garber. In 1910 Howard S. Robison brought the yoke back to Scandia where it is in the Scandia Museum, on loan by John E. Robison, the present owner." Adah R. Robison 1982

1820 US Census in Stokes, North Carolina as 'Robinson' with 4 persons, ages are correct for James and Anna Mabe

1850 US Census in Patrick, Virginia, 6 persons, wife Ruth, ages are correct for James and Ruth Young. Birthplace Virginia, birth year 1775, occupation 'Miller.' Also lists children Michael, Edmund, Abigail, and Christine. This record for James' birth year agrees with the War of 1812 enlistment record for James Robertson noted below.

A male descendant of this James was given the YDNA test. Matches and earliest ancestor are:
Walter Robison, who claims James Roberson 1737-1828 and Mary Fuqua 1740-1822 (MRCA likely in Scotland, no potential US connections)
Jessy Roberson, who also claims James and Mary (MRCA likely in Scotland, no potential US connections)
Ernest Carroll Roberson who also claims James Roberson (MRCA likely in Scotland, no potential US connections)
Scotty Robertson, who claims Daniel Robertson, b.1793 d. Aft 1860 Tenn (MRCA likely in Scotland, no potential US connections)
David Michael Robertson, who claims John Henry Robertson b. 1784 d. Aft 1880 (MRCA likely in Scotland, no potential US connections)

Matthew Lee Robertson who claims James Robertson d.1748 Louisa Co. VA (possible US connections)

James married Sarah Agnes BURTON 4 Dec 1828 See 'Marriage Bond' below, Stokes Co., North Carolina. Sarah was born Abt 1810, Stokes, North Carolina; died 1837, Stokes, North Carolina. [Group Sheet]

  2. 5.  Sarah Agnes BURTON was born Abt 1810, Stokes, North Carolina; died 1837, Stokes, North Carolina.

    Notes:

Our Robison 'family lore' holds that James and Sarah died, and the children were parceled out to be raised by relatives. We did find their four children in the 1850 US Census living with four different families, including Robert, our ancestor, living with Sarah Burton's uncle Robert Burton and his wife Lucy. And while James Robertson had clearly not died, the fact that Robert's son John wrote "Deceased was orphaned at the age of four" on Robert's death certificate leads us to conclude that Sarah Burton died in 1837, the same year James promised to marry Ruth Young.

    Children:
    1. Martha ROBERTSON was born 1832, Stokes, North Carolina.
    2. 2. Robert ROBERTSON was born Apr 1833, Stokes, North Carolina; died 8 Apr 1905, Holly, Prowers, Colorado at home; was buried Holly Cemetery, Holly, Prowers County, Colorado.
