Deed to Bernhard's Farm (first page)
Deed to Bernhard's Farm (first page)
This Deed, also called a Patent, conveyed the land from Daniel Snider (Schneider) to Bernhard Zentmeyer. Interestingly, the farm was called "Bishweiller," which is the German spelling for "Bischwiller." Bischwiller is the town in Bas-Rhin, Alsace where Bernhard and Salome were married and where most of their children were born. But the fact that the farm was called Bishweiller prior to Bernhard's arrival in America points to the likelihood that Bernhard was following the path of earlier emigrants from Bischwiller who had settled near Penryn, including perhaps Snider.

From approximately 1941. At the time, Edward's employer was Kiewitt Condon Paschen, a consortium that built the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant in Parsons, Labette, Kansas in 1941-42.
This item cleared up some confusion for us as to Edward's correct middle name.

Edward H. Strahorn's Maryland Vehicle Registration
Edward H. Strahorn was an early adopter. In Fair Hill, he owned a Thomas B. Jeffery 7½ horsepower Rambler, and was issued license #537 on 6 Sep 1904. According to the Motor Vehicle Administration in Maryland, the first recorded automobile registration was in fact in 1904. There were no license plates, the registration number was painted on the car. The driver's license was a badge that was worn on the coat while driving.
