Early Halifax Map
Early Halifax Map
Individual lots shown in 'M' were forty feet wide and sixty feet deep, with fifty-five foot wide streets. But interestingly, while this map denotes L only as 'Store House,' a German version of the map denotes L as 'Zeughaus' which translates as 'Arsenal' or 'Weapons Storage.' Perhaps Morris did not want to publish strategic data...

Edward H. Strahorn was an early adopter. In Fair Hill, he owned a Thomas B. Jeffery 7½ horsepower Rambler, and was issued license #537 on 6 Sep 1904. According to the Motor Vehicle Administration in Maryland, the first recorded automobile registration was in fact in 1904. There were no license plates, the registration number was painted on the car. The driver's license was a badge that was worn on the coat while driving.

Envelope from the Violin World addressed to L. A. Zentmyer in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
In his obituary, Lloyd was noted for playing the violin at the St. Thomas First Lutheran Church for many years. He was born and died in St. Thomas, and although the Census recorded him in other places, he was found in Pittsburgh only in the 1910 Census, thus dating the approximate period of the envelope.
