- John Walker Hancock was third of 9 children of James Ammon Hancock and Alice Jean "Lollie" Williams. He married Madge Limbocker, who was the sister of Zoe Limbocker, wife of Arthur T. Strahorn. They were the parents of John Walker Hancock Jr. and Alice Jean Hancock Bower. Walker is the namesake and a founding member of the Hancock Oil Company, which existed from 1922 until 1959, and was one of the largest independent oil companies in the Western U.S. Hancock Oil was sold to Signal Oil after a major explosion and fire at Hancock's Signal Hill refinery in 1958. At the time of his burial, Forest Lawn was known as Sunnyside Memorial Park and Mausoleum.
