  Notes	First descendant of Charles Morris to be Chief Surveyor of Nova Scotia upon his father's death in 1781. Charles Morris apparently came to Nova Scotia in 1760, some time after his marriage. From then until 1781 he assisted his father, Nova Scotia's first surveyor general; between 1776 and 1781 he performed the tasks of the office alone. In the course of the work he made 'Frequent and Tedious Excursions' throughout Nova Scotia, and, in 1768, went to St John's (Prince Edward) Island. In 1772 the possibility that his father might lose his position spurred Morris, with his father's approval, to seek it for himself.
