    JOHN ZENTMYER DEAD AT 89, WAS EDUCATOR
    JOHN DAVID ZENTMYER, 89, of 1035 West Oak Ridge Drive, died at the Avalon Manor Nursing Home Wednesday night after a long illness.

    Born in Hagerstown, he was the son of Jacob H. and Sarah Mundey Zentmyer. He was a prominent and highly esteeed educator, serving for 38 years in the capacity of principal in several high schools in Washington County, the last 20 years of which were in the former Hagerstown High School, until his retirement in 1946.

    Mr. Zentmyer received his high school dipolma from the old Hagerstown Academy, his B.S. Degree in Engineering from Washington and Lee University of Pennsylvania.

    After retirement, he served six years on the Washington County Board of Education.

    Always interested in his community, he took an active part in the local Y.M.C.A., in which he was a director for many years. He was the organizing chairman of the Halfway Fire Co., and the Halfway Community Church. As a member of the Washington County Retired Teachers Assn., he continued to promote legislation for the teaching profession.

    Mr. Zentmyer was a lifelong member of John Wesley United Methodist Church, where he served in numerous capacities, both as a Sunday school teacher and as an official of the administrative profession.

    He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Hazel Neff Zentmyer; a daughter, Mrs. Helen Kreykenbohm of Hagerstown; and three grandchildren.

    Services will be held at John Wesley United Methodist Church Saturday at 2 p.m. The Rev. William G. Cook, Jr. and the Rev. G. Edward Grove will officiate.

    Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

    The family will receive friends at the fMinnich Funeral Home on Wilson Boulevard, Friday evening from 7 to 9.

    The family request the omission of flowers, and memorial donations may be made to John Wesley United Methodist Church.
