    Notes:

    William Garber was born in Rockingham county, Va., September 28, 1833, and died at 7:45 a. m., October 19, 1926, aged 93 years and 20 days.

    In his early youth he moved to Owen county, Ind. In 1854 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Pettyman, who died a year later. To this union was born one son Henry Garber.

    On Nov. 17, 1861, he was united in marriage to Jane Wark and to this union were born six children, Mrs. Emma West, George Garber, Noble Garber, Mrs. Adelina Swanson, Nathan Garber and Mrs. Zora Botts. 21 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildrensurvive him. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1908 and two sons, Henry in 1889 and Noble, who died in 1923.

    He served in the Union army during the Civil War. In June 1870 he came with his wife and four small children from Webster county, Iowa settling on a homestead four and one-half miles northwest of Scandia, where he lived for 35 years. In 1905 he moved from the farm to Scandia and lived here continuously until his death. He was the oldest of the early settlers remaining in this community and a pioneer, who shared with the others all the hardships of the pioneer life and assisting in the settlement and development of this community.

    Notes:

    Howard Sheridan Robison son of Robert and Catherine Robison, was born at Sanford, Ind., June 19, 1868, at the home of his brother, George Robison, in Porterville, Cal., February 8, 1949, at the age of 80 years, 7 months and. 20 days.
    When Sheridan was 17 years, old, he came with his older brothers from Indiana to Scandia. Later on, his parents, and the younger brothers arrived and joined him here. During his early years in Scandia he worked for a time on the Rock Island railroad bridge which was being built.
    On July 31, 189'0 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Matilda. A. Garber (an error, wife was Matilda A. WELLS, Garber was Howard's mother's maiden name -Ed). Four daughters and three sons were born to this union. The family made their home on a farm north of Scandia for 49 years, until February 1939 when they moved to their home in Scandia.
    Mr. Robison was preceded in death by his wife, who passed away April 5, 1948, his parents, three brothers, John, Sherman and Harry, and one step-daughter, Amy Garber.
    Throughout his life Mr., Robison was a good neighbor and friend.
    Both he and his wife were always ready and anxious to serve others in times of sickness of distress. Although he never affiliated with any church he always was interested in church and Sunday school affairs and was anxious and happy to have his family take an active part. He was a friend of education and worked hard for improvements in the school in the district in which the family lived. During a number of years he served as a member of the, school board in district No. 24. He also served as road overseer and as a Republic County Fair committeeman.
    He dearly loved little children. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his greatest joy, and he often had long talks with them.
    Throughout most of his life he was blessed with good health, and his sudden passing came as a great shock to his family arid his friends. Death came only 30 minutes after he had arrived at his brother's home, where he had planned to spend a few weeks visiting.
    He is survived by his children, Adah, Josie, Robert, Edna, and Sherman, all of Scandia, Sadie of Salina, Edward of Wichita, and a step-daughter, Mrs. Edwin Isaacson of Scandia; five, grandchildren, Martha, Sue, Everett and Charles Robison, Mrs. Leon Wick, Alexandria, Va. and Dwaine Robison, Inglewood, Cal.; two step-grandchildren, Elwyn Isaacson and Mrs. Arthur Schuricht of Maywood, Cal., five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Frank Robison of Monmouth, Ore., and George W. Robison Porterville, Cal., and many other relatives and friends.
    Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 15, from the Evangelical United Brethren church of Scandia with the Rev. N. H. Pearson of the Amana Lutheran church officiating, Interment was in the Riverview Cemetery

    Miss Robison was born Nov. 12, 1891, on a farm north of Scandia and as a lifelong resident of the area. She was a homemaker and a member the United Methodist Church, Scandia. Survivors include a sister, Edna of the home; and nieces and nephews. The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, the Rev. Marvin Palmer officiating.     Josie May Robison, daughter of Matilda Amelia and Howard Sheridan Robison, was born March 11, 1896, on the family farm north of Scandia and died 26 Apr 1984. She received her education at Pleasant Valley rural school and Scandia High School. She taught school one year at Lone Tree District 117.
    In 1939 she moved with the family to Scandia. In 1941 she was appointed city clerk and served in that capacity for 26 years until retirement in 1968. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and Scandia Chapter 481 Order of Eastern Star. She was a Brownie Scout leader from 1949 until 1971 and served on the Library and Museum boards for several years. She was an initial member of the Scandia Development Commission. Because of ill health she resided the last five years in health care centers and was a resident of the Heartland Center in Belleville since 1980. She was preceded in death by her parents; two half-sisters: Amy Garber and Katie Garber Isaacson; a sister: Sadie Robison; three brothers: Sherman, Edward, and Robert Robison.     He received his education at Pleasant Valley District 24 school of Republic county.
    He was united in marriage to Myrtle Bell Marlow on March 2, 1920 at the United Brethren Parsonage in Scandia.

    Robert Robison, son of Matilda Amelia and Howard Sheridan Robison, was born April 24, 1898, on the family farm north of Scandia and died November 2, 1982, at the Belleview Manor, Belleville, Kansas at the age of 84 years, 6 months and 9 days. Bob received his education at Pleasant Valley, District 24. As a young man he was engaged in farming with his father and later worked for himself. During the early Forties he worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad. He later joined a road construction crew and worked for Reece Construction Company from 1947 until his retirement in 1961. After retirement, he made his home in Scandia. Bob was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 221 and received his 35-year membership pin in April 1975. He was preceded in death by his parents; two half-sisters- Amy Garber and Katie Garber Isaacson; his twin brother Edward; his brother Sherman; and his sister Sadie. Survivors include three sisters ?     Edna Matilda Robison. daughter of Matilda Amelia and Howard Sheridan Robison, was born on the family farm north of Scandia. April 17, 1900, and died October 19,1992, at Belleville Health Care Center, at the age of 92. She received early schooling at Pleasant Valley District 24 and graduated from Scandia High School. She earned a B.A. degree from Marymount College in Salina. She began her teaching career in 1919 and continued until her retirement in 1966, having completed 46 years. Her first assignments were rural schools, including District 88, where she taught 15 years. Fourteen years were spent in the Primary Department of Scandia Grade School, and the last four years of teaching were spent as a first grade teacher in the Belleville school system. She had resided in Scandia since 1939. She was a member of the United Brethren Church in Scandia until its closing, at which time she transferred to the United Methodist Church.     John Sherman Robison, son of Howard Sheridan and Matilda Robison was born October 1, 1906 in Scandia and passed away on June 11, 1963 at the State Sanitorium, Norton, Kan., at the age of 56. He attended Pleasant Valley grade school, Scandia high school and Kansas State college. In 1932 he was married to Grace E. Smith of Scandia and to this union were born three children. Sherman lived in Scandia his entire life except for time spent farming until he was forced to retire because of ill health. He was preceded in death by his parents, two half-sisters, Amy Garber and Mrs. Katie Isaacson. Survivors include, his wife, Grace, daughter, Martha of the home; two sons and their wives, Everett and May, Charles and Nina; five grandchildren, four sisters, Adah, Sadie, Josie and Edna Robison; two brothers, Robert, and Edward and his wife Myrtle; and a number of other relatives and many friends.
