    Notes:

    Levi Wells was of Welsh heritage being born on 8 AUG 1805 in Windham County, Vermont, one of 10 children of Joel Wells, Sr. and Mary (Edwards) Wells. His father, Joel Wells Sr., was born on 1 Aug 1775 in Deerfield, Franklin, Massachusetts and his mother was Mary Edwards who was born 9 Feb 1778 in Coventry, Tolland, Connecticut. His parents had married on 8 May 1797 in Guilford, Windham, Vermont. He married Sophia Voris 20 Aug 1823 in Harmony, Indiana. Sophia Sophrana Voris (Voorhees) is of Pennsylvania Dutch heritage born in Kentucky on 7 Aug 1805 to Peter and Rachel (Monfort) Voorhees. She Americanized her last name going from the Dutch name Voorhees to Voris.

    Levi Wells homesteaded in Nebraska west and north of Beatrice at the close of the Civil War. He came from Emporia, Kansas. He was a Kansas soldier but was raised in Illinois. Levi Wells was in the march "From Atlanta to the Sea" during the Civil War. Sophia Voris Wells and all other settlers in community gathered at the meeting house during the Indian scares in Nebraska and they took their stock with them.

    Levi married Sophia 20 Aug 1825 in New Harmony, Posey County, Indiana and they had 12 children:

    Amy Viola Garber departed this life March 16th, 1901, aged 15 years, 11 months and 21 days. Amy was a dutiful child, one of those possessed with a sweet disposition, modest and retiring. Her days on earth were short. Her Sun is gone down while it was yet day. Pneumonia attacked her and in a short time Death claimed her.     Miss Robison was born Nov. 12, 1891, on a farm north of Scandia and as a lifelong resident of the area. She was a homemaker and a member the United Methodist Church, Scandia. Survivors include a sister, Edna of the home; and nieces and nephews. The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, the Rev. Marvin Palmer officiating. Sadie had spent most of her life in Scandia and the Scandia community.     Josie May Robison, daughter of Matilda Amelia and Howard Sheridan Robison, was born March 11, 1896, on the family farm north of Scandia and died 26 Apr 1984. She received her education at Pleasant Valley rural school and Scandia High School. She taught school one year at Lone Tree District 117.
    In 1939 she moved with the family to Scandia. In 1941 she was appointed city clerk and served in that capacity for 26 years until retirement in 1968. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and Scandia Chapter 481 Order of Eastern Star. She was a Brownie Scout leader from 1949 until 1971 and served on the Library and Museum boards for several years. She was an initial member of the Scandia Development Commission. Because of ill health she resided the last five years in health care centers and was a resident of the Heartland Center in Belleville since 1980. She was preceded in death by her parents; two half-sisters: Amy Garber and Katie Garber Isaacson; a sister: Sadie Robison; three brothers: Sherman, Edward, and Robert Robison. She is survived by two sisters: Adah and Edna Robison of the home; nieces and nephews. THE BELLEVILLE TELESCOPE, Thursday, May 3,1984

    "Edward A. Robison was born April 24, 1898 on a farm north of Scandia and died suddenly on June 4, 1976. He was the son of Matilda A. Wells Garber Robison and Howard Sheridan Robison.
    He received his education at Pleasant Valley District 24 school of Republic county.
    He was united in marriage to Myrtle Bell Marlow on March 2, 1920 at the United Brethren Parsonage in Scandia.

    Robert Robison, son of Matilda Amelia and Howard Sheridan Robison, was born April 24, 1898, on the family farm north of Scandia and died November 2, 1982, at the Belleview Manor, Belleville, Kansas at the age of 84 years, 6 months and 9 days. Bob received his education at Pleasant Valley, District 24. As a young man he was engaged in farming with his father and later worked for himself. During the early Forties he worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad. He later joined a road construction crew and worked for Reece Construction Company from 1947 until his retirement in 1961. After retirement, he made his home in Scandia. Bob was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 221 and received his 35-year membership pin in April 1975. He was preceded in death by his parents; two half-sisters- Amy Garber and Katie Garber Isaacson; his twin brother Edward; his brother Sherman; and his sister Sadie. Survivors include three sisters ? Adah and Edna of the home and Josie in the Belle-View Manor, Belleville; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Grace Robison, Manhattan; and Mrs. Myrtle Robison, Belleville and several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. - THE SCANDIA JOURNAL Thursday, November 11, 1982

    Edna Matilda Robison. daughter of Matilda Amelia and Howard Sheridan Robison, was born on the family farm north of Scandia. April 17, 1900, and died October 19,1992, at Belleville Health Care Center, at the age of 92. She received early schooling at Pleasant Valley District 24 and graduated from Scandia High School. She earned a B.A. degree from Marymount College in Salina. She began her teaching career in 1919 and continued until her retirement in 1966, having completed 46 years. Her first assignments were rural schools, including District 88, where she taught 15 years. Fourteen years were spent in the Primary Department of Scandia Grade School, and the last four years of teaching were spent as a first grade teacher in the Belleville school system. She had resided in Scandia since 1939. She was a member of the United Brethren Church in Scandia until its closing, at which time she transferred to the United Methodist Church. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Republic County Retired Teachers Association, and Sorosis Study Club. - THE BELLEVILLE TELESCOPE, Thursday, October 22, 1992

    John Sherman Robison, son of Howard Sheridan and Matilda Robison was born October 1, 1906 in Scandia and passed away on June 11, 1963 at the State Sanitorium, Norton, Kan., at the age of 56. He attended Pleasant Valley grade school, Scandia high school and Kansas State college. In 1932 he was married to Grace E. Smith of Scandia and to this union were born three children. Sherman lived in Scandia his entire life except for time spent farming until he was forced to retire because of ill health. He was preceded in death by his parents, two half-sisters, Amy Garber and Mrs. Katie Isaacson. Survivors include, his wife, Grace, daughter, Martha of the home; two sons and their wives, Everett and May, Charles and Nina; five grandchildren, four sisters, Adah, Sadie, Josie and Edna Robison; two brothers, Robert, and Edward and his wife Myrtle; and a number of other relatives and many friends.
