Grand Island Sailers' and Soldiers' Home
During the years 1891-92 Lieutenant Miles Zentmyer was the second Commandant of this facility, which opened in 1887 in Grand Island, Nebraska. Originally built for Union veterans of the Civil War, it eventually accepted Confederates as well. The original Victorian building was torn down in 1931. In January 2019 a new Veterans Home was opened in Kearney, Nebraska and this campus was vacated.
