| 606 | Leah at the time of her marriage was 26, five years older than her new husband. By the time her last child, Charlotte, was born Leah was 44 years old. Little Charlotte died soon after her birth. I believe, based on the age of Leah, the death of the infant and the fact that Harrison was remarried by 1869, that Leah died of complications of childbirth. I suspect she died following the birth in 1867 or at least early in 1868. As to the place of death, I think a search should be done in Hardy Co., WV or Allegany Co., MD. UPDATE: Recently located information indicates that another child was born to Leah & Harrison after Charlotte. Fanny was born in 1868 in Allegany Co., MD and died after 1870 but prior to 1880. With this new information, I strongly suspect Leah died and is buried in Allegheny Co, MD Ref: Family records and papers located in the family Bible. Interviews with Fanny Ethel Santmyer Rowley. Information contributed by Fred M. Chilcott, Glenn Santmyer, Gerilee Santmyers and Jan Jennier. Rockingham Co., VA courthouse records (See Wm. Harrison Santmyer) Note: Information contributed by Izetta Barbour (source Colleen Zak) gives Leah's year of birth as 1836 and Harrison's as 1829. Colleen obtained this information from the 1860 VA census for Wardensville, Hardy Co. | CHILCOTT, Leah (I0045)

| 609 | Levi Finley Craft was the son of George Benjamin Craft and Sarah Elizabeth Lynch. Before 1850 (birth of daughter, Florence), he married Elizabeth Legate at Mineral Point, WI. Following the wedding, they moved to Sacramento, CA, where he engaged in the mercantile business. They also lived for a time in Marysville, CA. They had two children: Florence Adelle Craft (1850-1910); and Everett Legate Craft (1856-1886). In 1857, he moved his family to Woodland, CA, where he lived for the rest of his life. Following is an obituary from the Woodland Daily Democrat (Woodland, California), dated September 26, 1892 (Monday): "The death of Levi F. Craft occurred at his home on First street, Saturday evening [September 24] at 5 o'clock. Mr. Craft had been suffering with typhoid-malarial fever for several weeks. The immediate cause of death was heart failure, superinduced by the attack of fever. The deceased was born in Brownsville, Pennsylvania, May 26, 1819. He was the son of a clergyman, Rev. George B. Craft, of the Christian Church. At the age of nineteen he was married to Miss Elizabeth Leegate, at Mineral Point, Wisconsin. In 1850 he came to California and located in Sacramento, where he engaged in the mercantile business. He afterwards went to Marysville. In 1857 he came to this city where he resided continuously up to the time of his death. The deceased was one of Woodland's most highly respected citizens, and was upright and honorable in all his dealings. He leaves a wife and one daughter, Mrs. F. A. Arnold, of Denver, to mourn his loss. The funeral will take place from the Christian Church, Tuesday afternoon at 1 o'clock." | CRAFT, Levi Finley (I288)

| 611 | Like his father and brother John, David too was a blacksmith. He was raised in the Franklin Twp area of Huntington County. He married Isabella Zentmyer on 3 July 1855. He moved to Arch Springs, a small settlement near Sinking Valley, Blair County, about 15 miles from Altoona. He later moved to Altoona where he gained political notice by becoming the second mayor there. It was said that upon his election (around 1872 or 73) he cleaned up the city (literally!) by removing pig styes from the city area and by seeing that the city had sewers constructed. He seems to have been a "law and order" mayor, probably leading to his mayoral loss in 1874. David worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad Co. until he retired at age 70. In the 1890 Altoona directory he is listed as a tool temperer and lived 1116 Fifth Avenue where several of his children also resided. He died 30 March 1915 in Altoona. The 13 children of David Kinch [Jr] and his wife were born and raised in the Altoona area. | KINCH, David (I2336)

| 638 | Margaret was named for her mothers aunt, Margaret A. Shaw Rees. Margaret and Ethel were close during their growing up years. After the girls married, this same closeness was enjoyed between the Beighley and Rowley families. They spent much of their time together as one big happy family. Today that closeness remains between their children even though they live on opposite coastlines. I can imagine how hard it was for Margaret and Ethel when the entire Beighley family, parents, children, children's spouses and grandson, moved to Sacramento, CA Ref. | 648 | Mary Forrester Hobart was an American physician who practiced in Boston, Massachusetts from 1884 until her retirement in 1915. She specialized in obstetrics and was known for her independence and resourcefulness. Her career had parallels with that of her great-great-grandmother, Martha Ballard; but Mary Hobart sought out the medical profession by her own ambition as an early entrant. Her service was due in part to caring for the poor in hospitals. Hobart chose to remain single for her entire life, since she could independently support herself. She practiced for 31 years in Boston before retiring in Needham Heights, Massachusetts, where she lived until her death. Though Mary is known to be a pioneer in medicine, her great-great-grandmother, Martha Ballard, is a late 18th-century housewife whose diary is the main source for the book, A Midwife's Tale. Since Hobart was one of few to graduate from medical school in her family, it was only fitting to have a diary of medical importance passed down to her. Hobart was 33 when she received "a hopeless pile of loose unconsecutive pages." Her great aunts, Sarah Lambard and Hannah Lambard Walcott, decided it was best for Hobart to take care of the diary. She decided to donate the diary to the Maine State Library in 1930. Wikipedia | HOBART, Dr. Mary Forrester (I494)

| 649 | Mary is an enigma. She does not show up in the early census records as a child of Christopher and Barbara, she is not listed with the known children in Christopher's will, and she is not listed as a descendant in Robert Anderson Zentmyer's hand-written genealogy charts from 1904, although she is cryptically noted in the margin as "Old Aunt Mary Zentmyer? who lived with Jacob at the mountain." Mary was living with Jacob s/o David s/o Christopher in the 1850 census. She is buried in Burns Hill Cemetery in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania near this Jacob Zentmyer and his wife Susan Ditch. There is a small but much later stone near Mary's original stone which reads "Aunt." While this could mean Mary was a daughter of Christopher, it is more likely she was taken in by Jacob and Susan and adopted their surname. | ZENTMYER ??, Mary (I87054)
