J.C. Strahorn checking in with the timekeeper.
From the Zentmyer Collection. Every division point had a master clock, which was updated every 24 hours by a telegraph signal from the U.S. Naval Observatory in Washington D.C. The timekeeper would check the watches of every engineer on every train that passed through the division.
